iNACOL Virtual School Symposium 2012

International Association for K-12 Online Learning

Conference Theme: Inventing the Future of Learning

The annual Virtual School Symposium (VSS) hosted by the International Association for K-12 Online Learning will take place this fall in New Orleans, LA from October 21-24. CARDE will present a lecture and host a panel presentation (plus Q&A) at the event.

Lecture:  Developing a Conceptual Framework for Research in Online K-12 Education

Abstract:
Dr Michael Corry will present a lecture about the development and use of a comprehensive conceptual framework for research in online K-12 education. The framework is intended to identify factors, variables, and concepts key to research in online K-12 education. Relationships between these items will also be discussed. Participants will gain a general understanding of the framework and the current body of research in online K-12 education as well as identifying research opportunities for their own studies.

Panel Presentation:  Using Interventions in Online Learning

Dr. Robert Ianacone will moderate a panel presenting stragegies for interventions for struggling students in online courses. The panel is a discussion of intervention examined through the lens of four experts--an online teacher, an online school administrator (Barbara Brueggemann), and an expert in teacher professional development and student advisory services (Maria Coyle), and a expert in research/theory (Dr. Michael Corry). The panel experts represent CARDE and the George Washington University Online High School where "high-touch" and "high-focus" teaching uses specialized care to help learners achieve their goals.
